RoW80 Goals!

Words cannot express how excited I am to be participating in A Round of Words in 80 Days again…well, okay, actually, they can, and quite succinctly, so let’s get on with it. RoW80 helped me so much when I was first starting out, in building relationships with awesome fellow writers and setting achievable goals and giving me a way to track them and keep on top of them, so I’m really excited to see what I can accomplish this time around. Check-in posts are Sundays and Wednesdays, and here’s what you can expect to see me striving to achieve in those posts:

1. Transcribe at least one chapter of Soulless per check-in. There are only about 22 chapters in Soulless so this shouldn’t be a problem. Should I have it transcribed before the end of the round, then it’s going to be all about editing a chapter per check-in until the round is over.

2. Submit a story somewhere for every Sunday check-in. I was thinking of doing every check-in, but if I stretch myself too much, the goal tends to crumble. Two stories a week is a stretch, but one should be fairly do-able, especially with a couple of pieces under my sleeve at the moment.

3. It’s not all about the writing, either. I’d like to get back into drawing, so, with each check in, I’m hoping to post a sketch of something I’ve been working on or finished.

I think three goals is pretty solid, especially goals that will get my work out there. I’ll have daily goals, too, but I won’t be reporting on those, to help keep the check-ins free of minute boring details. I intend to read a chapter of a book per day, write a page of Serpent in a Cage a day (hopefully, this will be my next novel focus), make a blog post every day, and comment on someone’s blog per day as well. These are goals I’m currently trying to keep up, so it probably doesn’t hurt to keep them in the mix.

Once again, I’m incredibly excited to be back on board the RoW80 train again. It’s always a fantastic journey, and the destination is always filled with great success. Apparently, a theme of this round is Being Kind to Yourself, which I know is something that I need to work on, but, on the same token, it’s something I’ve taken a big stride towards. Being kind to myself, right now, means embracing the fact that I’m finally allowing my writing to be the most important thing in the world to me. That’s pretty big. And be kind to yourself, too, by wandering on over here to check out the other great participants of RoW80 and see what they’re working on.

Good luck, everybody! And happy writing!

  1. I’m so glad you’re back! I think ROW80 is the best writing challenge ever, and I’ve been there from the beginning. I love the support of all the fellow ROWers. They are such great people! I look forward to hearing about your progress each week.

    1. I’ve missed it so much, but I stopped having the time and energy to kept up with it this last year or however long it’s been. Now, that’s definitely not so much of a problem, and here’s to hoping it’s as inspiring for me as the last time I was active. 🙂

  2. A story a week has been one of my ultimate goals, so I’ll be interested to see your progress. And drawing’s good. When you say you’ll be transcribing the story, had you handwritten it before?

    1. I’ll warn you, John. A story-a-week is a goal I set for myself whenever I do RoW80, and it’s the goal I most often break, lol. But I’m really, really going to try hard.

And, yup, I’m old fashioned. I feel I write better by hand, so most of my rough drafts are all handwritten, and then I have to type them all up and start editing. It’s kind of nice, though; I edit as I transcribe, so it’s like a pre-edit. Whenever I try to just type something up straight from my head, it never seems to come out as well. There’s just something about the connection of actually creating the words with a pen in my hand on a clean sheet of paper that just makes the words flow.

  3. Yay! so glad you’re back. I’m heading back to ROW80 this round for the first time in over a year too and less than 2 days in it already feels like the best decision I’ve made all year. So excited to be touching base with so many familiar faces 🙂

    1. RoW80 is always a good idea. I’m so excited for all the familiar faces, as well as the new ones. Eeee. Welcome to the welcome back welcome wagon with me, Jody.
