Author Quotes: Burroughs.

“If you write one story, it may be bad; if you write a hundred, you have the odds in your favor.” Edgar Rice Burroughs

Now that I’m officially a Full-Time Author, the time has come to get back to focusing on producing more content. This is easily my biggest challenge with writing. I’m a good writer, I produce strong stuff, but I have had a problem in the past few years about just getting stuff done. A big factor of this was the demands of my job, so now that that’s out of the way, it’s going to be all about writing, writing, writing.

This fantastic bit of wisdom from Edgar Rice Burroughs is a great tagline to keep in the back of your head when you’re setting about trying to churn out more stories. The more you write, the more chances you have to come up with something that might get published or turn into something truly spectacular. Also, the more stuff you put out there, the more chances you have of getting noticed. And, even better, writing is one of those things that seems to just get better the more you practice, so if you’re writing more, you’re more than likely writing better, too. The creation of content, and lots of it, can often be a win-win situation (barring the situation where everything you’re putting out is crap, but, hey, someone might even like that crap. Let’s clear our throats for a moment and pointedly avoid mentioning the titles of certain romantic fiction that has exploded in the last decade, ahem ahem).

Even as a writer, I find it difficult to find the words for how grateful I feel that my life has lead me to this moment where my main task is going to be just to freaking write again. Before, when I could write one story that may be bad, I have the chance to write a hundred, and the odds will be (ever) in my favor. Already, even before I reached official full-time writer status, I managed to produce more content in the last three months that I probably did for all of last year. We’re off to a great start, and it’s only going to get better from here!

Speaking of newer content, the /r/WritingPrompts novelette contest on reddit is coming to a close soon, so keep an eye out for my entry, a little space Western entitled “Rescue from the Mutineers of Starvation” to show up as a featured story! It’s a project I plan on developing into something more, no matter how the contest turns out, so I’m really excited to start sharing it soon. In the meantime, there are 70 novelettes submitted, so there’s a lot of really cool and unique sci-fi and fantasy works on that list. Check ’em out, if you’ve got the time.

Or you could be writing your own.
