RoW80 Update: April 25th!

“‘You are being followed,’ she whispered. She lifted her eyes, holding Gilferen’s gaze for a long, warning moment, and he knew she was fighting to glance toward the person she knew was hidden behind them in the shadows.”

This morning (and all day tomorrow) are finally the days this week where I can actually get some writing work done. Not that I’m complaining too much; the past few mornings have been exceptionally good for me at work, which is a nice change of pace there, but I did miss my writing morning an awful lot. So I intend to cherish this morning and downright revel in it tomorrow. It’s going to be a pretty big day for me, and you’ll see why a little further as I break this Round of Words in 80 Days check-in down to tiny little bite-sized morsels of cataloging my progress.

Okay, so maybe it isn’t so much as “progress” this check-in as it is little drops of something added to the pond while I’m forced to tread water a little. Sunday hopefully, will be an entirely different story, but let’s see how things stand now:

Bowlful of Bunnies: I’m going through a few straggling stories leftover from Morgan Dragonwillow’s contest a while back, and I’m just finishing up my Orpheus story, and then I’ll have a rough draft ready for betas after tomorrow, if not by the end of today (my edits are going very well already this morning). Hopefully, that will be another week while people go through it and check for improvements, then it’s one more edit before I get to the formatting and get this thing ready to debut! Tomorrow is going to be a big day and I cannot wait! We’re almost there!

Serpent in a Cage: I’ve been able to pick at SiaC very little these last few days, but I’ve gotten a few paragraphs written, which is progress from last time. I think the scene itself has a lot to do with it; right now, it’s very clunky, and it’s going to take a lot of editing finesse once the rough draft is finished, but I know when a scene isn’t working as well as a should because the progress through it is very slow. Even if I don’t have a lot of time, I notice I manage to get through what’s working fairly quickly. Hopefully, today, I’ll get through the clunky part and the exciting part will start happening. Page count: 64/114.

The 100 Books Project: I’m just shy of about 30 pages or so to finish two different books right now; I plan to finish them up tomorrow, if not today (most likely tomorrow, though). That should put a nice little pep in the numbers! Right now, though, I’m still sitting on Books read: 13/100 (2/38 for this round).

Book No. 0002: I’ve been doing a little more outlining on The Reaping, which seems a viable option, but I’ve also come across an older novel I started that’s just a collection of vignettes, pieced together into a story, which I was thinking could be a pretty cool second for this year. I think it’s going to boil down to what just feels right as soon as BoB is ready and out, and, knowing me, I’ll probably work on several options for a few months and just go with what’s sticking the most.

Other Novels: I’m excited with the fact that To Cross a River of Blood is coming along nicely, though that’s really the only other novel I’ve been working on. I know, right? So disappointing. Only working on four or five novels at once. Told you I’ve been slacking off.

So, yes, things are going along steadily, Bowlful of Bunnies is very close to being finished, and I’m really excited to get a chance to do a lot of work tomorrow. That’s about it for the update this Wednesday, but be sure to check out some of my fellow RoWers here. Until next time, space cowboys. Happy writing!

  1. Time does have a way of ebbing and flowing, doesn’t it? And you have quite a lot on your plate, so enjoy your mornings!

  2. I know what you mean, about SIAC. If I ever have a problem writing a scene, it’s because something isn’t working for me. My writing is best when I can sit down and write for hours without stopping. (rarely get the time for that, these days. :))

  3. Congrats on being so close to finishing Bunnies (is it wrong that I end up giggling a little each time i read that title?).

It’s hard to readjust our processes, be they writing or not. I’m glad that you are starting to recover some rhythm between writing and work. You can do it.
