“She stopped, halted in her tirade as she noticed that Master Donovan was not just pottering around on his own. She did not bother to hide the fact that she was getting a good look at the two young men accompanying him, and Gilferen was glad for that, because it meant he didn’t have to hide the fact that he was getting an eyeful of her for himself. And what an eyeful it was! Anger positively radiated from her tall, muscular body, the same way that black curls radiated from her round, pretty face. Eyes as dark as a still pond at midnight, skin the soft brown of milk chocolate. She wore the gauzy fabric of the desert nomads, pale yellow to better blend in with the dunes. The way it wrapped around her curves and ample mounds of breasts made him think of windswept dunes. In her hands, she held a staff, a tall, black thing topped with an elaborate decoration of blade, radiating out dangerously from a central, glowing jewel. Gilferen’s appreciation for her form almost prevented him from noticing the staff at all, eye-catching as it was, but there was such a firm glint of hard fury in her gaze that he almost expected her to start skewing people with the weapon right then and there.”
It’s Wednesday again, which means it’s time for another RoW80 check-in! It’s hard to believe that this round is almost over and it’s almost time to start thinking of some new goals, especially since I feel I never really got much of a grip on my goals for this round. Ah, well. There’s still a few more check-ins before I really need to start postulating and reflecting on the outcome of this round, right? There’s still work to be done, writing to be had, and good times for all in the meantime. Let’s take a moment to check in on my progress:
Serpent in a Cage: The trend of success with SiaC continues, and will continue throughout the day today as I dedicate a good portion of my day off to catching up on the word count a little bit. Things have been going speedily since the current chapter is already written, it’s just being touched up for the new version. I have to express, yet again, how pleased I am that, even with a completely new approach to the way the story is written, there are still chapters that can still be used either exactly as they were before, or tweaked and modified just slightly. It’s like taking a gem that you’ve been in love with and finding a new setting for it, creating a fresh new take on an already awesome item. This project has been giving me so much joy lately, and I’m really going to try to set some finishing goals for it next RoWnd if it keeps up. Page count: 39/70.
Bowlful of Bunnies: Now that the Teen Fantasy Anthology is winding down for me a little (see below), I plan to turn more focus on BoB very soon here. I’ve got a bunch of new stories that need to be finished, and I intend to still try to whip up a few more. Once I’m a little closer with the page count on SiaC, this is where all my energy will go. I know I have six stories that are, for sure, going into BoB, but that’s not nearly enough, so the tides, they will be a’changing soon! I’m not quite at that spot where BoB is my number one priority, but I can see it there, close on the horizon.
Teen Fantasy Anthology: I’m reluctant to say that I’ve completely given up on the last remaining six days of the Teen Fantasy Anthology Contest, so I’ll just say that a better way to put it is that I’m simply not going to worry about it. As I mentioned in the last check-in, time was my biggest downfall here. I got a lot of super fantastic stories started, but I just didn’t have the time to finish them. So I’m going to finish them for Bowlful of Bunnies and hope what I was able to complete for the contest does well. If not, hey, more stories for BoB! And maybe these last few days will be like the first few, where the prompt grabs me, I can churn out something as quickly as I need to, and I’ll still have some material. But if I have a look at the prompts and don’t feel that spark, I won’t worry about it. I’m still really proud of what I’ve accomplished, little as it may be.
The 100 Books Project: Picking up some momentum with this one, thanks to a new set-up I’ve devised that allows me to do more writing and more focus reading. I’ve really been enjoying it and the progress it’s giving me. I should finish up another book today, but, as it stands, I’m looking at Books read: 9/100 right now. That’s only an average of three books a month right now, not nearly enough to get me where I need to be, but the pace is quickening and I’m really putting more focus into it, too.
Other Novels: Not much progress of the other novels floating around, since I’ve been focusing more on SiaC and BoB. Which is not a bad thing at all.
Hair: You may be wondering what hair has to do with any of my RoW goals and the simple answer is that it doesn’t. I just finally decided to cut my hair this morning into the severe bang that I have been contemplating for a few weeks now, and I’m pretty excited because it look fabulous. I always make the mistake of cutting it too thin and too short when I try to do this, but I think I finally got it right. I’m loving it so far!
…so what are you loving so far about your RoW goals or your writing in general? How about the gorgeous spring weather if you’ve been blessed with it as we have? If you get a chance, don’t forget to check out my fellow RoWers here and, in the meantime, happy writing!
