With today being the day Americans celebrate Thanksgiving, and with being American and all that, I figured it would make sense to do a gratitude post today of all the things in my life I’m thankful for. So grab a cup of coffee, a leg of turkey, and settle in, because there’s quite a few things that fit that category.
I am incredibly grateful, of course, for my family, who has supported me through a lot of hard times and, though they miss me and wish I could be closer to home and have more time to spend with them, still support my need for independence and understand that the decisions I’ve made are best for me, even if it means that I am not often involved so directly in their lives anymore.
I’m grateful that I have the strength to have gotten through some pretty tough times and the intelligence to learn from the past’s tragedy and become a better, stronger person because of it.
I’m grateful for my cats, who will always make me feel loved, who make me laugh, and who give me inspiration and keep me company. They are a great contribution to the strength I have and will always remind me of shades of my past in wonderful ways.
I’m grateful to have a wonderful roommate who shows me support when things get tough for me, who always makes me feel that, even though I can’t be everything I wish I could be, that I’ve been an improvement on her life and happiness all the same. And also for my roommate’s family, who have welcomed me in almost like another kid, since I’m a little lacking in family down here.
I’m grateful for my talents and my imagination, the fact that I can work words to tell stories that entertain and enchant, even if right now, the only person they’re really entertaining and enchanting is myself. But I have the ability to spread that around and create some really great things, so I’m grateful for that.
I’m grateful to have a job that, though it stresses me out and is frustrating sometimes, allows me to work with people and get excited about something that I not only love, but is also good for both the spirit and the soul.
I’m grateful for my friends who make every day a little brighter, my blog readers who make my ramblings feel validated and help me believe that people might actually be interested in what I have to say, and for all the people who subscribe to the blog, especially my newest subscriber Thys le Roux; thank you so much for subscribing! I look forward to checking out your work, as well!
And this is only the tip of the iceberg, you guys. There are so many things in my life that I am thankful for, and I try to spend every day being grateful for them. Today is a special day set aside for that, but, just like you shouldn’t wait for Valentine’s Day to express your love for someone, be sure to celebrate all the great things in your life every day! Now I’m going to go and be thankful that I’ve discovered a little thing called “self-control” when it comes to eating.
Happy Turkey Day!
