RoW80 Check-In: September 18th.

Those wide blue eyes started dancing over Jaxson, over Gilferen, over Locke’s still figure on the ground, and Gilferen pulled himself up, stiffening under the flitting gaze. The questions she was asking…It was so far-fetched that he couldn’t believe it. Survived what? She couldn’t possibly mean the massacre.
But she did. Knolan’s eyes fell, the shadow crossing over him as it always did whenever the Massacre was brought up. ‘No,’ he said quietly. ‘None others. None that I know of, anyway.'”

Let’s crunch some numbers today, shall we? Round Three of One of the Best Things I’ve Ever Started, A Round of Words in 80 Days, is almost coming to an end. My original goal for this round was to finish a second draft of my Great Big Novel to start my Epic Series. That goal was very quickly scrapped and I told myself to at least write a page of it a day; I’ve done a little better than that and last week, I claimed I wanted to at least get to the break point where we switch POVs over to Auferrix briefly. And then I wasn’t so sure I would get to that point…

After today’s shift, I have both Monday and Tuesday off, and probably two chapters to write before I’m at that POV switch. Last night, I got a lot of work done getting through a scene that was difficult for me to write (ugh, fighting!), and so I think I might be able to drive myself and get to where I’d like to be for end of this round. And then Round Four can be dedicated to finishing it. I work best with a deadline in sight; it’s easy for me to set a bar, to see it there, and to forge forward and reach it, even if it means that Tuesday night, I’ll be up well past my bedtime until I manage to crawl across that finish line!

It’s so hard to believe it’s already toward the end of September! Time flies when you’re having fun, I guess. How are everyone else’s goals going? We’re so close to the end! Think you’ll make it?

Be sure to check out our RoWers here and encourage them on as we get to that finish line!

  1. I love that you stated that ROW 80 was the best thing you ever started. That is how I feel. I don’t know if I would have ever started writing if I hadn’t been part of this and also when the going got tough I am not sure I would have continued at all.

    Enjoy the last few days!

    1. It really, really is one of the best things I’ve been fortunate to find and join. Not only on the writing front, but also because I’ve met so many great and inspiring people through it. It’s fantastic, and I can’t wait to see what other great things the next round brings!

  2. I will join the chorus. I know in the darkness of my heart that I would never have gotten as much written as I have if I had not joined this Round. No, I didn’t set the world (or even my neighborhood) on fire, but I established a habit and fed a need. Yay for all of us!

Looking forward to Round 4 with you!

    1. I hardly set anything on fire, either, but there’s at least a good deal of smoke! Yay for all of us, indeed! I love the network and the energy and the excitement of RoW80.

And Round 4 would continue to be incredible!

  3. I completely hear you on deadlines – they are most helpful for me. I too started round 3 and am so grateful for all that I’ve learned and the wonderful and supportive people who have taken part. I look forward to gauging your progress in the next round.
Be proud of what you did accomplish and be sure to celebrate it! 🙂 I’ll celebrate with you 🙂

    1. Thanks, Marie! I hope I can be better about keeping up with other people through the next round, too, because the connections with everyone else in the game is one of the best parts of RoW80.

We’ll have to have a big party on Friday for how awesome we are!

  4. So close to the end! I have my fingers crossed for you that you hit your goal and get to your POV change by Thursday. I can’t believe that the 80 days is over already! I have enjoyed ROW80 so much and I will definately be joining in with the next round. The best part has been meeting so many fabulous other writers 🙂 Good luck…

    1. I know, what happened to the time? I guess this just helps confirm the aphorism that time flies when you’re having fun. Thanks for the support, Jody! I can’t wait to cheer everyone on in Round 4!

  5. I agree… ROW80 is one of the best commitments I’ve made! I’ve learned so much about setting realistic goals, and I’ve so benefitted from all the wonderful support.

Hope to see you in Round 4!
