This post is going up a lot later than usual, I know, but at least it’s actually going up, unlike the last two RoW80 check ins. It’s not so much that I’ve been forgetting or that I’ve had nothing to report; quite the opposite, actually. I’ve just been very busy with a social life and everything. I’m glad to report, though, that despite this pesky social life, I’ve actually been managing to get a lot of writing done and most of it somewhat decent, too.
As far as my RoW80 project, I’m finally past Chapter One and finally into the pages I do have for the rest of the book, so it’s pretty smooth and quick sailing from here. Basically, all I have to do is follow along with the first draft, write the next approach as necessary, and out comes the improved version of Serpent in a Cage. Since the first draft is in a big binder with a lot of pages, I really can only work at it while I’m at home, but that affords me the opportunity to dig into other projects while I’m out of the house. But I’ve been finding that I miss working on Serpent in a Cage. Now that I’ve got the draft to work from, it’s a really enjoyable experience, altering scenes and seeing what I can do to improve the piece as a whole. I also think the decision to have the events at the beginning of the book happen with both Locke and Gilferen present was the best idea I’ve ever made. The interplay between the two in these scenes really makes the story richer and helps build their relationship better than the version where they each experienced them separately.
So, yes, things are finally picking up for Serpent in a Cage, I am happy to report! And, hopefully, eventually, I’ll get a little better about making sure I tell everyone that on Sundays and Wednesdays!
How are things going with my other fellow RoWers? I wish you all a great week!
