The New Novel Project: April 2011.

I had, briefly, considered trying to make a post filled with April Fool’s Day nonsense and bullshit, but, to be honest, I’ve never been good at doing stuff like that. I’m terrible at lying convincingly, and so this April Fool’s Post is just like any other post.

Or is it?

I wanted to offer a quick thanks to WriterNubbin for the subscription! Glad to have you aboard, and I look forward to reading your stuff, too! It makes my day to get a subscription notice.

And now, it’s a brand, new shiny month, which means a brand new shiny novel. I had been playing with a lot of ideas through March, but I think I’m going with the freshest, most recent inspiration, which is loosely based on Soul Blazer, as per this post. It takes a bit away from my plan to alternate between attempts at “straight” novels and Arynethian novels, but it is still very sci-fi/fantasy-esque. It’s still very sketchy at the moment, too. Basically, all I really have developed is the image of this crusading female saving the world from a terrible soul-stealing plight. Which is not a bad place to start at all.

I attempted to put together an outline at work last night. Writing a novel on company time, go me! But we were kind of busy, so I really only got a general sketch of the prologue and/or first chapter, in which we meet the main character, still unnamed, as a little girl, hearing again the legend of the warrior that will purge the world of the soulless scourge. The little girl decides to voice that she will become that warrior one day, which is met with laughs and pats and reminders that it is a story, a legend, of gods and hopes and not reality. Naturally, the village is then attacked, completely decimated, and the girl, finding her father’s sword, manages to defend herself until she can find a spot to hide from the attackers. Time passes, and she is eventually found by scavengers, and that is where the legend begins.

And we’ll see where it goes from there. I’ve been excited about it ever since conceiving it. I still don’t know much about the plot or my main character yet, but I hope to get some more outlining done and see how things fall into place. She’s just such a striking figure in my imagination right now that I can’t imagine giving attention to anything else.

Funny, how this is what sticks with me after a brief musing about women kicking ass, and I’m also going to see Sucker Punch with a group of friends tonight, which is sure to just add more fuel to the fire, I’m sure.

    1. Definitely thanks to him for that! And thank you for enjoying it. It’s just nice to know that I’m not just rambling to myself and that people actually like reading my random thoughts on stuff. 🙂
